Here are some concrete topics that I would like to move to a new “community” category.
The current design of the main Octave website
was created back between November 2015 and February 2016 by Alex Krolick and got finally online about one year later in November 2016. The sources are freely hosted on
https://hg.octave.org/web-octave. With kind support by @jwe, @mtmiller, Jordi, and some others via the mailing-list, I managed the maintenance of the website since then (e.g. release announcements, URL updates, text revisions after changes, etc.).
Today, I overhauled the website s…
Join us for another semi-formal meeting of Octave developers next Tuesday July 28 at 18:00 UTC. If I’m getting the time zones right, that is 11:00 Pacific / 14:00 Eastern in the US, 20:00 in Central Europe and 3:00 in Japan (Wednesday).
I intend to use Jitsi for the meeting and will post a URL here and also to the IRC channel and the maintainers mailing list an hour or so before the meeting begins.
We’ll mostly be discussing future directions of development and getting updates about activitie…
i see others posting messages from nabble, but I can’t, it says the mail can’t be sent or something (in my mail inbox), what’s the problem? thanks
Hi, I attach the link to my ongoing Octave Tutorial playlist in YouTube:
If you find it useful please suscribe to the channel. You can also suggest topics for future videos, and I will try to cover them. In this playlist I try to cover different basic concepts for people who are new to Octave. In the future I will create more advanced playlists on using Octave for problems related to Quantum Chemistry, Spectroscopy and some other scientific stuff.
Thank you very much!
Are other developers using ctags functionality (say with vim or emacs)?
works, but the tags cover just the C/C++/Fortran files. Instead, I generated a tags file at the top-level of the source tree using
ctags -R .
This isn’t too bad. Now I can edit a file like ls.m and put the cursor on ispc() and jump through the tag to ispc.m.
But this doesn’t work for functions like strcmp() which are written in C++. I looked at the tags file format and all of the C++ functions are listed u…
I no longer receive email notifications from savannah. The last one I got is from Friday evening CEDT.
Is it just me again? Do others still receive notifications?

Octave Forge a blessing or a blocker? — Octave Forge started as a project to cope with slow Octave core development and was successful with it for many years. Today the situation seems inverted.
The last big push came in 2017 with an amazing new website and hard repository migration work done by many volunteer developers. Many of them are no longer act…
As discussed during the developer meeting on 2020/10/27, I created a wiki entry to list goals for the next release and added some of my own priority items.
You can find the wiki section here:
We can move it to a separate page or category if it would work better that way.
Also, as noted in that entry, the section is intended for active developers, not a place to dump wishlist items or feature requests. Please create a subsection for your ideas/prioirities.
Recently the Octave Wiki displays differently for me on my desktop PC:
The layout looks more suitable for a small display (of a mobile device?) than for a large monitor.
It might be a browser setting that has changed on my side.
Is anyone else seeing the same?
For my master’s thesis I’m surveying the community of users of MATLAB and similar languages (Octave, Scilab, Rlab, etc.). The main goal is to document the different ways these languages are being used and to gather opinions and feedback that the users might have about these languages and their features (such as object-orientation).
It doesn’t matter if you’re only a complete beginner or if you’re an expert, your response helps the study! So if you could spare just a couple of minutes to pa…
